Steelers Win Provincials; Off to Nationals

The Pacific Steelers defeated the BC Outback 5-0 in the Senior Female AAA Provincial Championship game.

The Steelers were backstopped by the strong play of goaltender Jen Price who turned aside 37 shots for the shutout.  Tournament MVP Cassie Reid, scored two goals, and added an assist, while Melanie Jue, Lauren Gee, and Meghan Floer had the other Steelers goals.

The Steelers advanced to the Finals after recording a 5-1 win over the New Westminster Royals, and 3-1 win over the Surrey Twisters.

“Jen Price and Cassie Reid have had great seasons, and outstanding provincial tournaments, but this weekend really was about the whole team coming together and peaking at the right time, and about every player raising their game to a higher level when it mattered the most” said Steelers President Alan Chim.

“Our Coaches Owen Pighin and Rob Reid have done an outstanding job with this team.”

In winning the Provincial Championships, the Steelers will be representing B.C. at the Esso Nationals March 10-14 in Sherwood Park, Alberta. This will be the Steelers second appearance at Nationals in the last three years.  The Steelers will be the last club team to represent B.C. at Esso Nationals, as B.C. will be sending an all-star team next year.
