The Pacific Steelers were founded in 1999 by Alan Chim, Michael Hillman, and Brett Taylor who wanted to form an U-19 competitive club team that would play together during the hockey season.
Through the efforts of then Richmond Minor Hockey Association President Barb Mogan, the program was initially a team under the Richmond Minor Hockey Association, who were extremely supportive of the
Steelers concept.
However, a month into its inaugural season, under pressure from various external organizations, the Steelers were forced to become an independent stand-alone program, and it remains to this day.
The Steelers club team has had a remarkably successful history, placing over 30 players into US Colleges in the past five years, and having qualified for the Senior AAA Provincials for the last four
years, and winning Provincials, and representing BC at Esso Nationals twice. The team has been successful despite always being the youngest Senior AAA team in the Province.
Over the years, the program has
expanded offering not only a season-long club team, but also fielding spring/summer tournament teams, and running clinics and prospect camps.
Steelers Tournament Teams have entered high profile tournaments in Connecticut, Vermont, Ohio, and Brampton.
College coaches that have attended our Prospect Camps in the past include: Harvard, Maine, Dartmouth, UNH, Niagara, Brown, Northeastern, Yale, Wayne State, Minnesota Twin Cities, Ohio State,
Cornell, Wisconsin, St. Cloud State, St. Lawrence University, Princeton, Bemidji, Maine, University of Connecticut Cornell and Providence College.
